A Rose Made of Galaxies

Image
Source According to NASA, this visualisation shows a cosmic phenomenon that resembles a rose formed due to the interaction between the galaxies due to their respective gravitational pull which led to their distortion. NASA shared the three-dimensional view of Arp 273, captured by the Hubble Space Telescope with the caption: “A sweet cosmic rose to brighten your day.” NASA Hubble original Instagram Post about Cosmic Rose According to a blog post by NASA, Arp 273 lies in the constellation Andromeda and is roughly 300 million light-years away from Earth. The image shows a tenuous tidal bridge of material between the two galaxies that are separated by tens of thousands of light-years from each other. The larger of the spiral galaxies, UGC 1810, has a disk that is tidally distorted into a rose-like shape by the gravitational tidal pull of the companion galaxy below it, UGC 1813. This is a transition news. More updates are yet to come on this. As soon as the update comes, I will bring anothe...

Honeypot Ants: amazing ant who store honey in its abdomen

Image
The honey pot ant is a species of ant native to the deserts of Africa, Australia, and North America. In the United States, honey pot ants are commonly found in the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona. They get their name from their diet, which consists mainly of nectar and sweet plant fluids. Scientific classification Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Hymenoptera Family: Formicidae Subfamily: Formicinae Tribe: Lasiini Genus: Myrmecocystus Only some honey ants become “living larders.” They are part of the “worker” caste of honey ants. Other castes include soldiers, who protect the colony from predators; princesses and drones, who mate to form new colonies; and the queen—usually the mother of all other ants in the colony. Storage Like the worker ants, storage ants ingest honey, nectar and plant secretions, but instead of immediately feeding the other ants, the storage ants store the food within their enlarged abdomens. When food is scarce and worker ants cannot fin...

Important Questions for Class 11 Biology - The Living World

Image
Class 11 Important Questions for Biology Chapter 1 Living World Question 1: Why are living organisms classified? ANSWER: A large variety of plants, animals, and microbes are found on earth. All these living organisms differ in size, shape, colour, habitat, and many other characteristics. As there are millions of living organisms on earth, studying each of them is impossible. Therefore, scientists have devised mechanisms to classify all living organisms. These methods of classification are based on rules and principles that allow identification, nomenclature, and finally classification of an organism. Question 2: Why are the classification systems changing every now and then? ANSWER: Millions of plants, animals, and microorganisms are found on earth. Many of these have been identified by the scientists while many new species are still being discovered around the world. Therefore, to classify these newly discovered species, new systems of classification have to be devised every now and t...
